Trail Report: Friday, Oct. 17
🚵♀ Sober October has continued for another week, with incredible weather but shockingly little rain for this time of year. It's hard to complain about the weather lately, but we would appreciate some more rain. It makes the dirt that much tackier and it's good for trail work as well. While the dirt has stayed reasonably damp out in the open, the trails are shockingly dusty inside the forests, where the rain hasn't penetrated the canopy.
🌧 The good news (or bad news) is the high pressure system that's been holding the storms back finally seems to breaking down. Both long-term weather models we look at for these reports shows lots of rain in the forecast, with snow at higher elevations. Of course, we've been deceived before, so maybe it won't be too bad?
🚳 We got sent a photo of a really mucked up drivetrain from a rider on Frisby Ridge this week (see Photo #4). Given that, and the likelihood of snow this weekend, we've closed the trail the season. Please respect the closure and don't rut out the trail and make more work for our trail crew next summer. We'll see you back there July 15, 2026.
⛏ Our trail crew has one week left in their season. This week, they completed inspecting all 105 km of trail and 167 trail features. They also removed a bunch of trees from Sex on the Beach while they were down there, and replaced a bridge on Stimulus that they deemed in need of urgent repairs. Finally, they carved out a bunch of drainage channels on Sisyphus, with the goal of having it riding mud free in the spring.
Enjoy the riding this weekend!
