Trail Report: Friday, Sept. 11
It was warmer and drier than expected last week, which made for beautiful riding weather. Over the long-weekend, we got out on Frisby Ridge, 5620, and Boulder. Conditions were great in the alpine, while Boulder was a little dusty. Fortunately, rain early Thursday freshened things up and Macpherson was riding great during our weekly condition check that evening.
Heading into Revelstoke Bike Fest, the pleasant fall weather is expected to continue, The forecast is for sunny skies and highs in town around 20 C, with rain on Tuesday.
Trail Crew spent the week on Boulder and Macpherson. On Boulder, they fixed up and packed down the landings on Snakes & Ladders, did some clean up on Redneck's Revenge, and removed trees from Sisyphus, Gravy Bacon, and Iron Lotus. On Macpherson, they brushed Buff Enuff.
The big news is Phase 1 of the Tall Timber rebuild is complete. A new line that bypasses the rutted-out chute was built by volunteers Peter Wojnar and Jacob Tooke. The original line was built when traffic was a lot lower and you could get away with fall-line trails. With mountain biking booming, it was turning into more and more of a rut and was not sustainable. The reroute is more sustainable and more fun to ride. Thank you Peter and Jacob, and to Kona Bikes for supporting their efforts.
It's a busy week in town, with a few races and Bike Fest all coming up. Here's what to watch out for if you're out riding:
Sept. 12: Expedition Canada is hosting a small adventure race, with the mtb portion on Macpherson. Registration is capped at 50 and the racers should be spread out, so it shouldn't impact your ride much.
Sept. 14: The Trans BC Enduro is racing on Frisby and Boulder. The affected trails are UFC, Ultimate Frisby, Upper Boondocker, Redneck's Revenge, and Cash Advance.
Sept. 19: The Revelstoke Women’s Enduro takes place on Macpherson and Boulder. They will be racing TNT, Dusty Beaver, Buff Enuff, Tall Timber, and Lower Boondocker.
Sept. 20: The Revy 50 is racing most trails on Macpherson. It will be mostly wrapped by early-afternoon, so plan accordingly if you want to ride there that morning.
