Trail Report: Friday, June 6
This week was all about the chaos after the storm. A brief but intense storm ripped through Revelstoke last Saturday, knocking down trees all around our network. Macpherson was the worst hit, but there were trees down on most of our trails.
Fortunately, our trail crew is pretty skilled with their chainsaws and they went to work, moving through the network and clearing things one snag at a time. We also had help from provincial wildfire crews and several volunteers. By now, we're pretty sure all our trails are clear, but please let us know if we missed one so we can get on it as soon as possible.
Finally, the week was capped off with a Dig Day with the Revelstoke Secondary School Mountain Bike Team. They worked with our trail crew on upper TNT, which they hosted a race on a few weeks ago. We're really stoked by their willingness to help maintain the trails they race on. It's a great way to give back to the community.
Our trails are now all open with the exception of Frisby Ridge, which is closed annually until July 15 to protect wildlife.
Looking ahead, it hasn't rained since Saturday and the trend of hot, dry weather is forecast to continue into next week. We've decided to postpone upcoming Dig Days because conditions just aren't conducive to moving dirt around. We'll let you know when they start up again.
Don't forget about the Iron Horse XC next Saturday, June 14! This is going to be a fun, grassroots event and we encourage everyone to take part, no matter your skill on the bike. Find out more at www.bikerevelstoke.org/ironhorse.
