Trail Report: Friday, Oct. 9
There's something magical about riding at this time of year, with tacky dirt overlaid by a carpet of golden leaves. The contrasting light gives way to night rides, where the beam of a headlight points the way through the forest. The trail conditions remain great, though you will definitely encounter more wet roots and puddles as they don't have time to dry out in the short days.
The forecast for the long weekend is looking lovely. The current system is expected to move on and be replaced by sunny skies on Sunday and Monday, so conditions should be great for a Thanksgiving ride. The Revelstoke Mountain Resort webcam shows a little snow in the alpine, but Frisby Ridge should still be good to ride. We ask that you be mindful of the sensitive alpine environment up there and if you encounter muddy conditions, please turn around to avoid damaging the trail.
Trail crew started the week doing trail and feature inspections, and also removed a tree on Bike Club. The inspections are important end-of-season work so we know what we need to prioritize next year. On Tuesday, they picked up a load of cedar decking from Greenslide mill and got to work building two more adaptive bridges on Flowdown. We've got only one more to go before we can call this major project complete! It's been a priority for us to get this done this year after we received generous grant funding from the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC and Resort Municipality Initiative.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
