Trail Report: Friday, July 25
It's been raining all day as we write this, which means more moisture to keep our dirt nice and tacky. You can expect some wet conditions this weekend as the trails dry up, and more fantastic riding once they do. Please ride gently to avoid trail damage, especially on Frisby Ridge. The forecast shows hot and sunny weather during the week, with more rain for the August long-weekend. But that's a week away, so we'll deal with that when it comes.
Our trail crew spent the week working on a long-awaited bridge replacement project on Flowdown. We are widening all the woodwork on the trail to adaptive mountain bike standards, which means riders who use three- or four-wheeled bikes will be able to enjoy the trail without assistance. This means installling all-new stringers and cedar decking, and hammering in hundreds of nails. They are partway through this major project, but are now taking a pre-scheduled mid-season break. Work will resume in August. We'd like to thank Downie Timber Lumber Ltd. and Selkirk Cedar for donating two loads of decking to make this project possible.
We want to extend our appreciation to everyone who helped remove trees from trails after the last big storm. Your help means our crew can focus on major projects instead of chasing blow down (though they're more than happy to do the big jobs). If you encounter a downed tree on your ride and can't move it yourself, please let us know by sending a photo and the location. We'll post it in on the RCA Volunteers Facebook group, where we know people are eager to help.
