Inaugural Iron Horse XC Delivers

The first annual Iron Horse XC was a great success, with 47 riders of all ages taking part and amazing vibes throughout the day on Saturday, June 14.

The action was based at the Nordic Ski Lodge, where everyone gathered for the race start. Racers ranged in age from 12–70, while 17 girls and women took part. Nine racers were under the age of 19.

The nine kilometre course started was a figure-eight, starting with a counter-clockwise loop of Stimulus before heading into more technical terrain on Black Forest, Break-a-Leg, Root Canal, and TNT. Racers had the option of completing one, two, or three laps.

Weather and trail conditions were ideal, with the rain holding off until most racers were done.

  • In the beginner category, Chris Pearce was the top male and Mikaela Sparr the top female.

  • For the intermediates, Emily Lane topped the female podium and Greg Madden the male podium.

  • In the expert category, Mike Kozak was the fastest rider on the day to take the win, while Alana Heise was the fastest female.

We have many people to thank for making the event a success:

  • Skookum Gear for sponsoring the race and providing prizes.

  • The Revelstoke Snowmobile Club for lending us speakers and a generator to keep the energy pumping.

  • All the volunteers who helped out on course and at the start/finish line.

And major credit to Dana Wacker, our Events Director, for creating this event and making it happen.

We can’t wait to bring it back next year!
