Monday’s Post-storm Report
We had an intense storm blow through town on Saturday and cause a huge mess on our trail networks that will take a while to clean up. Here's what you need to know as of Monday at 3 pm.
The damage:
We received reports of trees down on most of our trails, including: Flowdown, Dusty Beaver, Tantrum South, Berm Donor, TNT, Break-a-Leg, Black Forest, Stimulus, Yew-R-Here, Quarry, Sex on the Beach, Sunnyside Up, Haulin' Daze, Redneck's Revenge, and Iron Lotus. We're assuming no trail was spared, so if you come across any others, please let us know in the comments or send us a message.
The clean-up:
First, thank you to the volunteers who have already been out clearing trees.
Trail crew is working working their way up Flowdown and their plan is to then head down Dusty Beaver and over on to Berm Donor. They will keep progressing through the network during the week.
Stella-Jones sent a crew to remove trees from Quarry and Yew R Here near their new cut block. They reported back that the lower junction of Yew R Here and Hemlock Groove is impassable and they are going to conduct a danger tree assessment before completing the work. Please avoid Yew R Here until they complete the work.
We're hopeful to get the help of local wildfire crews who are still in town.
How you can help:
If you have chainsaw training and are able to assist, please let us know and we can direct you appropriately. If you've already gone out and cleared some trees, let us know so we don't waste time going where we're not needed.
On top of all the trees, there's debris everywhere. It really helps us out if you take the time to chuck a few sticks into the forest. Better yet, if you're able to go rake some trail, we'd really appreciate it.
Share a picture of yourself raking of sawing, and we'll toss you some swag.
Finally, there's lots of leaning trees out there. It's impossible for us to assess every single tree along our trails. Please stay aware of what's above you as you travel around the network, especially if the wind picks up.
