Trail Report: Friday, June 26
It's beginning to look a lot like summer out there. We passed the solstice this week and, right on cue, Mother Nature greeted us with a heat wave that dried out a lot of our trails. It's not exactly a dust bowl out there, and there's still nice dirt to be found in forested areas. But the steeper the trail and more open it is to the sun, the dustier it will be.
As I write this, up to 10 mm of rain is in the forecast for Friday evening into Saturday morning, with the potential for more precip throughout the week. Combined with cooler temps, we're hopeful for some natural dust suppression.
Trail crew started the week replacing a broken bridge on Root Canal. They also replaced another bridge on Flow Down as part of project to make that trail fully accessible by adaptive mountain bikers. One thing you'll notice is that when they replace a bridge, they don't leave any gaps in the decking. Our crew leader calls those "dog catchers" and he's keen to eliminate them for our trail companions. The crew also spent some time brushing on Macpherson, removed some downed trees on Yew R Here, and gave Big Timber a good raking.
Looking forward, they will be doing maintenance on Frisby Ridge to get it ready for opening on July 15. The trail is closed to the public until then in order to give wildlife some space, but we received special permission to access the trail for maintenance only so we can work on it before there's any riders. Thank you for respecting the wildlife closure.
Have a great weekend and a Happy Canada Day!
