Trail Report: Friday, July 24

This is arguably the toughest time of the summer for our trail crew. They're halfway through the season and the long, physical days are starting to add up. It's hot out, the mosquitoes have emerged, it's smoky, and the trails are dry and there's no good dirt to work with.

When it's like this, we shift gears and focus on brushing and raking trails, and repairing and replacing bridges, and building new features. This week, the crew got started removing downed trees on Hemlock Groove. They also brushed Sex on the Beach, Stimulus, and under the power lines on Boulder. They cleaned up Gravy Bacon and, finally, built a new feature on Snakes & Ladders. Unfortunately, we had some technical difficulties with the photos, so we only have a few to share this week.

The dry weather is expected to continue for the foreseeable future, though there are thunderstorms in the forecast this weekend. However, the steady rain we need to make the trails tacky again is nowhere in the forecast. You'll find the best conditions in the alpine and in the darkest forests lower down.
