Trail Report: Friday, July 31

I can't believe it's the August long-weekend already. It feels like the summer is flying by, and there's still so much riding to do.

Aside from a flash storm last Saturday, the weather was consistently hot and dry the past week. I've been enjoying evening rides on Macpherson lately, where the northerly aspect and forest cover makes for nice, cool rides and good quality dirt. If you head to Boulder and Sunnyside, expect things to be loose and dusty. Frisby Ridge is a mixed bag of conditions, but the wildflowers are worth heading up there for.

The weather forecast looks like a repeat of last week, with the potential for thunderstorms on Saturday, followed by sunny skies and temps in the mid to high 20s the rest of the week. The big wildcard right now is the smoke conditions. We've all gotten used to hazy skies from wildfire smoke in summer, but if you're concerned about smoke, please visit firesmoke.ca to get a rough idea of what to expect and the best time to be out on the trails.

Our trail crew started the week clearing blow down on Macpherson before moving over to Frisby Ridge for a couple of days to tackle some major brushing work. Frisby is a fast, two-way trail, so we want to make sure there's good sightlines to help prevent collision. On Thursday morning, they cleaned up Tall Timber on Boulder. We then met at Revelstoke Mountain Resort for performance reviews on the gondola and a little team building before the long weekend. They were pretty stoked to ride together without heavy packs full of equipment.

The crew is off next week for a mid-season break. They'll be back at it on Aug. 10 until the season ends in late-October.
