Trail Report: Friday, July 4
Here's our trail report for Friday, July 4:
It's safe to say, summer has arrived in Revelstoke. Temps hit the 30s earlier this week and it looks like more hot weather is in store. There's a little rain forecast this weekend, but probably not enough to have much of an impact. The best riding can be found in the forests, where the dirt is less exposed to the sun and retains more moisture. Unfortunately, that's also where the worst mosquitoes are, so bring bug spray or don't stop moving!
Our trail crew spent most of the week up on Frisby Ridge getting it ready for opening day next Tuesday, July 15. They will be up there most of next week, too, cutting back the brush and addressing drainage. They also spent some time on Boulder doing some work on Iron Lotus, and meeting with one of our trail directors to explore options for re-opening Snakes & Ladders and putting in a small re-route on Tall Timber.
We're getting close to alpine riding season. The most recent report from Martha Creek says it's rideable from the upper road crossing down. A June 30 report from Keystone says the first four kilometres were "passable" but after that there were many snow patches. We advise waiting until at least next weekend to give it time to melt and dry up a bit.
And for the roadies, it's time to test yourself on Canada's #1 hill climb as the Meadows in the Sky Parkway in Mount Revelstoke National Park is open to the top!
