BC Hydro Powerline Mowing

A BC Hydro contractor is in the process of mowing the vegetation under the power lines in the Revelstoke area. This work will be ongoing for the next few weeks and could result in some temporary trail closures on Boulder as they will be using big machines that can send wood debris flying up to 100 metres.

We met with BC Hydro and the contractor last week to discuss the work and ensure it proceeds with limited disruption to mountain bikers. Our biggest concern is the junction above the Detention Centre and we stressed the need to keep this area open, especially during peak riding times on weekday afternoons and weekends. We were assured any necessary closures will be limited to early mornings, where possible. Other trails that will be impacted are Man Quads, Iron Lotus, and Redneck’s Revenge, which all end under the powerlines—you can expect temporary closures while they work in those areas.

The contractor will post a notice on the kiosk at the Boulder parking lot when they are mowing in the area, and will place signage at trail entrances to the BC Hydro right-of-way when actively mowing a trail in the area. Please review it before going riding and obey all signage when you’re out on the trails.
