Trail Report: Friday, August 22

It took a while, but summer has finally properly arrived in Revelstoke. We've had a nice spell of dry, warm weather this week and more sunny skies are in the forecast for the foreseeable future. Conditions are still pretty great, but we expect dustier trails to emerge, especially on steeper trails and those more exposed to the sun.

Our trail crew spent the first half of the week widening more bridges on Flowdown to help bring the trail to adaptive mountain biking standards. We'd like to thank Downie Timber and Selkirk Cedar for their donation of a load of decking to help make this project possible. The crew then shifted gears to another major project, but we'll share more about that when it's further along.

The TranSelkirks Run is taking place on Mount Macpherson this Sunday, Aug. 24. The 34 km course stages from the Nordic Lodge at 8 am and covers most of the trails on Upper Macpherson. The trails will be open for the public during the event, so please be on the lookout for runners if you’re out there that day.

Also of note is that logging will take place on Upper Macpherson starting next week. This work shouldn't impact any of our trails, but you can expect to see machinery near Beaver Tail (see image below for a picture of the planned cutblock). A second cutblock is being logged higher up Macpherson, away from any of our trails. We're pleased that BC Timber Sales modified their original harvest plans to avoid directly impacting any of our trails. Please obey any signage and watch for trucks along Beaver Lake Road and Tantrum FSR.

We hope you enjoy the riding this week. As usual, we welcome trail reports via bikerevelstoke.org/conditions.
