Trail Report: Friday, August 15
We received quite a few reports on Trailforks this week and they pretty much all say the same thing: conditions are "ideal." To be sure, we went for a ride Thursday after work to see for ourself. We're happy to can verify the reports are true. Super Happy Fun was especially a delight and lived up to its name. Looking ahead, Saturday is looking pretty wet, with dry weather to follow. But the weather has been so erratic this summer, we're just playing it day-by-day.
The other reason for our ride was to check out the new bridge on Flowdown that our trail crew spent the last few weeks building. This was a major project that involved rebuilding a 45-metre long bridge to adaptive mountain bike (aMTB) standards. aMTB encompasses a broad range of riders who require adaptations to a typical mountain bike to enjoy the trails. This includes handcycles, e-assist, bucket seats, modified 2-wheel bikes, trikes, and recumbent bikes. An adaptive trail is designed to be wide enough to accommodate three-wheeled bikes.
Most of Flowdown is suitable for aMTB, except the bridges. A few years ago, a local aMTBer approached us about widening them so he could enjoy the trail. We began with the longest one, and our trail crew completed the work this week. The finished product is a beauty and a testament to their skills. To top things off, they used the off-cuts to build a skinny - if you think the new bridge is too wide.
There's still more bridge work to complete to bring Flowdown to aMTB standards. Our goal is to make progress on the remaining bridges this year. As an organization, we're proud to make our most popular trail inclusive to all riders.
We hope you enjoy another great week of riding. If you want to report a trail issue, use the form on bikerevelstoke.org/conditions.
